Race-day photos found here.
And a funny blog posting from Evo Davo here. "This is the suffering we had been promised."
Description: Ronde van Palouse (Tour of the Palouse) is a road race held in the spirit of the Spring Classics. The course consists of a 16-mile circuit in the farm country near Spangle, Washington. The loop features 10 miles of good pavement and 6 miles of graded gravel. The constant rollers and the nearly constant wind of the Palouse make this a challenging circuit that favors the strongest all-around riders. The finish line is about two miles northeast of Liberty High School. Puncture resistant tires are recommended. You can follow RvP's course conditions, talk smack, and ask questions about tire size on the RvP Facebook page here.
Don't forget that Ronde van Palouse is part of the Champion of the Spring Classics Series. Partnered with the Rocky Mountain Roubaix (Saturday, April 27), these two early season races are the hardest, dirtiest, meanest races in the Pacific Northwest. Rain, snow, pot holes, and mud! What's not to love?! Read more below.
Not tough enough to race this bad boy but still wanna score a sweet RvP t-shirt? Volunteer and the t-shirt--plus a lot more--it yours! Click here for volunteer info.
UPDATE (2/25/13): Parking, registration, staging, and awards will be at the Liberty ELEMENTARY school, NOT at the high school. The school is immediately southwest of the high school.
Master's fields are open only to USA Cycling Category 1-4 racers. Category 5 racers (new racers) must race in the Cat 4/5 field. The only exception are Masters 60+ who can race in either the Cat 5 field or the Masters 60+ field. Read more about Master's fields here.
Five (5) riders make a category. Promoter also reserves the right to combine, split, or cancel fields depending on turnout. Fields that race together will still be scored separately.
Driving Directions: From Spokane, go 17 miles south on Hwy 195. Exit the highway left on East Cheney-Spangle Road. This is the second Spangle exit. You'll see the Harvester Restaurant to the left and a gas station on the right as you enter the town of Spangle. Continue to the stop sign at Main/Old 195. Turn right on Old SR 195 and proceed south for approximately one mile. Turn left on Spangle-Waverly Road. Proceed 3.75 miles and turn right onto S. North Pine Creek Rd. Parking, registration, staging, and awards at the Liberty Elementary School on the right. (PS: Don't believe Google Maps; we are staging almost immediately southwest of the high school) Google map.
Entrance Fee: $25 includes sales tax, insurance surcharges, registration fees, and pretty sweet RvP shirt.
Registration: Online registration available at usacycling.org. Day-of registration will be available. Check-in and registration will be from 8 to 10:30 a.m. in the Liberty Elementary School parking lot. Racers should check-in no later than 30 minutes before the start.
The Fine Print:
Because everyone ones that pies make everything better--including bike racing!--Cyrus O'Leary's is giving each podium finisher their very own pie. Now that's a pretty sweet prize list.
Champion of the Spring Classics Series Prizes:
This year's Champion of the Spring Classics sponsor is none other than Cyrus O'Leary's. We've again combined Ronde van Palouse and Jacobson-Schutte Racing's (formerly Northern Rockies Orthopedic) Rocky Mountain Roubaix (Saturday, April 27) to create the Champion of the Spring Classics presented by Cyrus O'Leary's. The highest placed Cat 1/2 Man, Cat 3 Man, Master 40+ Man, and Cat 1/2/3 Woman will win cash. You have to do both races to win!
